Case Study: Synapse to Lakehouse, AgenticMigration.AI
SATAC had invested in building a Data & AI environment, but despite early success, progress toward a sustainable, production-ready capability was slow . Facing growing operating costs, a small internal team, and uncertainty about how best to scale its analytics function, SATAC engaged insightfactory.ai to chart a new path forward to modernise its Data platform and program. Leveraging the Insight Factory platform, AgenticMigration.AI, and a managed service model, the program rapidly positioned SATAC to transition to a governed, scalable, and future-ready Lakehouse foundation, unlocking the potential of the organisation’s data investment.
"insightfactory.ai has been instrumental in helping us unlock and set a course to realise our future vision for data and AI. They rapidly stood up a modern platform, seamlessly migrated us from our incumbent system, and brought to life the key solutions and applications we had been waiting to access. The speed and quality of delivery has given us the confidence and capability to move forward with our digital transformation."

The Problem
For several years, SATAC had invested in building out a data platform in Synapse. Integrations had been developed and early solutions were beginning to take shape, but the environment was struggling to mature.
With only a small in-house development team, SATAC found it increasingly difficult to move solutions into production and to establish the level of resilience, scalability, and governance required of a modern enterprise data platform.
The challenges were compounded by operating costs and limitations on internal capacity and capability to manage and optimise the environment. The team was unsure how best to sustain and evolve the platform in a way that would keep pace with innovation while also ensuring cost efficiency, security, and compliance. As a result, the organisation faced an uncertain path forward, with concerns about how to scale its analytics capability and deliver data-driven solutions at the speed and quality the business required.
SATAC needed more than a short-term fix, it needed a sustainable model to manage its data platform, move solutions into production, and empower its analysts to access and use information effectively. The organisation sought a pathway to unlock its investment, build confidence in its data foundation, and enable the wider business to embrace a data- driven approach with confidence.
The Solution
SATAC engaged insightfactory.ai to deliver its modern data platform under a fully managed model, ensuring not only a rapid deployment but also the long-term sustainability of the environment. The Insight Factory platform was deployed in less than a day, and within days was already connected to SATAC’s core data sources, with data ingestion into the new environment underway.
As part of the Synapse-to-Lakehouse migration, AgenticMigration.AI was leveraged to expedite the transition from the Synapse environment into the new Lakehouse. Within the first week, data had been migrated into the platform, the Synapse code base for core solutions had been mapped and extracted, and code had been transpiled and reconciled against the source systems. These solutions were then moved into development and, with minimal friction, into test and production demonstrating the ability of insightfactory.ai to not only stand up a modern Lakehouse platform but also to migrate incumbent workloads into it at pace.
Beyond migration, the solution introduced enterprise-grade governance through Unity Catalog, ensuring that SATAC’s platform is secure, compliant, and future-ready. Under the managed platform model, insightfactory.ai continues to provide optimisation, monitoring, and enablement, progressively unlocking new capabilities and empowering SATAC’s analysts to deliver the data-driven insights the organisation requires.
The Value Delivered
Through the combination of the Insight Factory platform, AgenticMigration.AI, and a managed service model, insightfactory.ai was able to rapidly accelerate SATAC’s data transformation program and unlock value that had remained out of reach. What had previously been a stalling initiative quickly became a production-ready platform, delivering both immediate business outcomes and a foundation for future growth.
Within days, SATAC had a fully operational Lakehouse environment in place, which was cost-effective, governed, and scalable. Their core solutions were migrated from Synapse and successfully moved into production, enabling analysts and business users to finally access the insights they had been waiting for. At the same time, the transition created the opportunity to decommission the legacy Synapse environment, which is expected to reduce infrastructure and compute costs.
Beyond the immediate technical migration, SATAC now has confidence in the long-term sustainability of its platform. The managed service arrangement provides ongoing optimisation and governance, while embedded playbooks and reusable agentic migration patterns ensure that internal teams are positioned to extend and build upon the environment independently.
The result is a step-change in capability: SATAC now operates on a secure, future-ready data foundation that supports new BI, AI, and agentic use cases, while delivering agility, reduced complexity, and cost efficiency. In short, insightfactory.ai turned what had been an immature platform into a strategic enabler of the organisation’s digital ambitions.
